How to Choose the Perfect Outfit for Your Portrait Session

7 outfit ideas for your perfect portrait session

You just got off the call to book your portrait session. You have the date circled on the calendar. You know where you’re going and you have complete trust in your photographer. (That’s a good thing, because if the photographer is me, I know you’re going to look and feel your best during our time together.)

There’s just one thing you’re uncertain about: Choosing the right outfit. Or, outfits, if you want a variety. How do you know when you have one that will feel good and look great on camera? How do you know if you’ve chosen something that will give you the feeling you’re looking for or imitate the samples you’ve seen?

Don’t worry. I’ve put together 6 outfit ideas to inspire the perfect photoshoot for you.

1. Slip Into Sleeves

A great way to create shape is to find something that has unique sleeves. A ¾ bell sleeve can give you a unique flare and movement. A lace sleeve provides the perfect merriment of feminine and skin show without feeling overly exposed if you don’t want to.

Another option is to go with a cold-shoulder or peek-a-boo top to highlight a key area that is sexy for all women: your shoulders. It’s also a beautifully modern look that’s just as eye catching as the timeless looks we love to fall back on.

2. The Fitted Dress Flair

If you have some luscious curves, you might want to consider a fitted dress as a stylish choice. This style accents your waistline as well as hugs your hips, butt, and thighs as well as all the other curves you proudly carry.

Slipping into a well fitting dress is a great way to show off your curves and feel comfortably sexy. It’s the perfect combination of alluring and confidence with a sense of modern sophistication.

3. Dark Colors

Worried about your weight? Dark colors are your friend. Dark colors draws the eyes away from the body and give a slimming effect. They will help to hide the areas you don’t like as much.

4. Sensual Sheer Fabric

Similar to lace, sheer fabric is a feminine choice that gives you both a sexy look while staying sophisticated. Layer a sheer top with a classic tank top or cute undergarment and you can up the ante on how sexy you want your photo session to be.

5. Find something with movement

One of my favorite things to photograph is how the body moves. Find something that moves with you and your photographs will have instant life breathed into them. Fabrics such as tulle are light soft and flowy. I actually have many tulles skirts in my studio wardrobe for you to choose from.

6. Show Some Skin

Let’s get one thing clear: Showing off your legs, arms, shoulders, and any other area of skin is not reserved for women in their 20s. It’s for you, too. As you age, your skin might look different, but all that means is that it’s growing into its natural beauty- the kind you don’t have at age 20 or 25.

Choosing an outfit that shows off whatever you’re comfortable with will no doubt result in a sexy portrait or two. I’m talking about the kind of portrait that will leave you feeling proud of the skin you’re in.

7. Wear what you like

The most important thing is to pick out something you feel good in. It might be your go-to outfit for special occasions or it might be something you’d never wear anywhere else. If you feel good in it, it’s going to show through your expressions, making your photographs shine even brighter.

What is Your Perfect Outfit?

The perfect outfit for your portrait session is what makes you feel good when you slip it on. It gives you the movement you enjoy while highlighting the parts of you that you love to show off. It’s an outfit that lights up your face while bringing out your personality.

The truth is, there is no exact perfect outfit, but when you find one that calls your name, you’ll know it.

And if you’re still having trouble choosing, don’t worry. I’m here to help narrow down the outfit choices of all my clients. In fact, clothes shopping and try on sessions are one of the things I love to do! [LINK] Schedule your session today.
